Comic Science
Designers, Illustrators and Writers
Otago Museum is running an exciting new project in 2006. Comic Science will be a three issue series of science and technology comic books. They will be available for free to teenagers throughout New Zealand.
These comic books will explore elements of teen lifestyle whilst weaving in scientific and technological themes, topics and knowledge. Stories will carry over all three issues , and a number of stand-alone panels and ‘skits’ will be contained within each issue.
We are inviting submissions of interest from designers, illustrators and writers to become part of this project (payment to be agreed).
Designer
We are seeking a graphic designer with experience in publishing and if possible, comic books. This role includes: coordination of illustration, layout, cover and logo design, adopting required changes, liaising with printer, adopting required changes and delivery of work within set timeframes.
This role will begin in February with Issue One to print in May, Issue Two to print in July and Issue Three to print in September.
Writers
We are seeking writers with experience and skills in comic book or script writing for a teen audience. This role includes: plot and character development, writing science for teens, adopting required changes, and the delivery of work within set timeframes.
This role will begin late January with the majority completed in April.
Illustrators
We are seeking illustrators with experience and skills in comic book illustration or graphic illustration for a teen audience. This role includes: illustration of comic book scripts, development of characterisation and action, adopting required changes, and the delivery of work within set timeframes.
This role will begin in February with a late March deadline for Issue One, a June deadline for Issue Two and an August deadline for Issue Three.
Please submit expressions of interest including: examples of relevant past work, descriptions of previous projects, positions and contracts, CV, contact details of referees, your contact details and a self addressed envelope envelope if the submission is to be returned by 5pm Friday 20 January 2006 to Comic Science, Otago Museum, 419 Great King Street, PO Box 6202, Dunedin.
